Plat de cuisson cocotte Staub La Cocotte 5,5 l ovale

The Staub La Cocotte 5.5 L Oval Cast Iron Casserole combines traditional cast iron construction with an oval design sized to accommodate larger joints of meat and family portions. With an internal capacity of 5.5 liters and an overall width of about 31 cm, this cocotte provides even heat distribution and long heat retention, suitable for slow cooking, braising and roasting. The enameled interior simplifies cleaning and resists sticking, while the robust cast-iron body supports stable stovetop-to-oven performance and table presentation.

Advantages

Durable cast iron construction ensures uniform heat distribution and excellent heat retention for steady low-and-slow cooking. The oval shape offers extra room for roasts, whole poultry or layered vegetables. The enamel interior reduces the need for seasoning and provides a non-reactive cooking surface for sauces and acidic ingredients. Designed for stovetop and oven use, it also has an attractive finish that allows serving directly from the pot to the table.

How to use

Begin by preheating the oven or adjusting the stovetop to the desired temperature. For browning, heat the empty cocotte briefly then add a small amount of oil before searing meat or vegetables. Use medium to low heat for slow-cooking to maintain even temperature and prevent food from sticking. The enamel surface can be cleaned after cooling with warm water and mild detergent; avoid thermal shock by not rinsing a hot pot with cold water. Follow standard cookware safety practices when transferring between stovetop and oven and use suitable oven mitts to handle hot lids and handles.

Recommendations

To preserve the enamel and cast iron performance, avoid cutting food directly inside the cocotte and do not use metal utensils that could scratch the surface. Always preheat gradually and avoid sudden temperature changes. For best results with braises and roasts, sear at higher heat then finish in a low oven to achieve tender, evenly cooked results.
