The CIPHERLAB RS38 Handheld Data Collection Device is a mobile terminal running Android with an integrated 2D imager and long-range scanning capability. Designed for inventory management, logistics, field service and retail environments, the RS38 captures 1D and 2D barcodes reliably at extended distances and connects to Android applications for data collection and processing. The device combines portable form factor with data capture features to support mobile workflows and reduce manual entry errors.

Advantages

The RS38 offers long-range 2D imaging that reads barcodes at greater distances than standard handheld scanners while maintaining accuracy on low-contrast or damaged labels. Its Android operating system enables direct integration with a wide range of enterprise and custom applications. The handheld unit is built to withstand regular field use and provides a user interface familiar to mobile workers, which helps reduce training time and supports rapid deployment in inventory, logistics and retail operations.

Recommendations

For optimal performance, verify that the barcode is within the recommended scanning range and oriented toward the imager. Clean the imager window regularly to avoid read errors, and keep the device's firmware and Android apps up to date. Use protective cases or mounts if the device is frequently exposed to rough handling or outdoor conditions, and maintain charged spare batteries for continuous operation in high-throughput environments.
